The Adidas Kopanya was the official match ball for the 2009 FIFA Confederations
Cup, held in South Africa.
The ball's design was inspired by South African Ndebele tribal art, featuring vibrant
geometric patterns in red, blue, yellow, and green, representing the nation's diverse
culture.
It was based on the Adidas Europass model, with a 14-panel thermally bonded
construction, ensuring a seamless surface for better accuracy, control, and
reduced water absorption.
Made from high-quality polyurethane, it provided excellent durability and grip for all
weather conditions.
The Kopanya was designed to enhance aerodynamics, making it one of the most
advanced balls of its time.
It was used in the tournament where Brazil defeated the USA 3-2 in the final, winning
their third Confederations Cup title. This ball set the stage for the Jabulani, which was
later introduced for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Adidas Kopanya remains a
memorable symbol of South Africa’s journey towards hosting the World Cup.
