The Adidas Telstar 18 was the official match ball of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in
Russia. It was inspired by the original 1970 Adidas Telstar, bringing back the classic
black-and-white panel design but with a modern pixelated twist. The ball featured a
seamless 6-panel construction, designed for better aerodynamics and control. The
Telstar 18’s textured surface improved grip and performance in different weather
conditions. Some goalkeepers, however, found it too slippery and unpredictable in the
air. A special gold version, the Telstar Mechta, was used in the knockout rounds and
final match. The ball was played in memorable games, including France’s 4-2 victory
over Croatia in the final. The Telstar 18 blended nostalgia with innovation, making
it a standout in World Cup history.
